Navajo Code Talkers

Navajo Code Talkers-172

Navajo Code Talker & Kay-170

Recently while in Albuquerque NM for the annual hot air balloon fiesta my friend and I visited Old Town Albuquerque where the Navajo Code Talkers had an information booth set up. I took a couple quick snaps while my friend had a conversation with one of the Code Talkers. Admittedly I’d never heard of this group and now I regret not taking time to listen to what they were talking about. This past week my friend’s daughter shared a post on her facebook page and as a tribute to this group of men I’m sharing the link and information :

The last of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers of World War II has died. Chester Nez, died this morning of kidney failure at the age of 93. Give him a LIKE to honor his extraordinary service and legacy http://bit.ly/1ktnTwk

Now that is soooo cool…love the history behind this. My son Corey just got home from Albuquerque last week. He went with a mission group from his college and worked (and slept) in a homeless shelter. He served food from 5am-3pm and then in the evenings he hiked the Sandia Mountains. I loved seeing his pics of the natives and to hear all his stories. I would love to got there sometime…it made quite an impression on him!

Corey had a wonderful place to do his mission work. We spent some time in the Sandia Mts also. This was the first time I’ve been in that area and I would love to go back. I hope you do get to go there some time.

One of the highlights of my trip was talking with these two men. They are a national treasure and humble heroes. My only regret is not going to Window Rock, AZ and visiting the Navajo Code Talkers Memorial.

Have belatedly enjoyed the views from your Texas vacation and the previous architectural photos. Have been to NM twice since my brother-in-law makes it his home. We were there in August and the white-hot dry heat really impressed me!
