Of the many CHORES soldiers have in protecting a fort near water is to maintain the Shot Furnace. This is where cannon balls were heated before firing at approaching vessels to set them on fire. This shot furnace is at Castillo De San Marcos located on the Mantanzas Bay in Florida.
