STRONG waves pounded the shoreline on the east coast of Florida as hurricane Irene moved northward. The waves at Cocoa Beach were forceful and the rip tides were fierce. A lifeguard had a jet ski on standby if it was needed. Water is one component of a hurricane the main ingredient is wind. Waves worked on eroding the shore as the wind drove grains of sand through the air that felt like a sandblaster when it hit the skin.

I know, we thought we were daring just to step on the beach, lol.

Wow, you have really portrayed well the awesome power that preceeds the hurricaine weather. Some people are definitely bold and oftentimes foolhardy in their attempt at thrill-seeking.

There was a feeling of excitement with the impending storm, some are bigger risk takers than others.
Unfortunately so many lives were effected by this devastating storm.
