Although the grass fire caused by the live power line hitting the ground turned out to be a minor call for the fire department. The brigade went through the same procedures as if they were responding to a large fire. This photo shows one firefighter BUSY taking caution tape to cordon off the area. The air temperature was close to 90 degrees, just imagine wearing all that gear and rushing about.
After grabbing some shots of the scene I hitched a ride from neighbors and left for home. We never found out what caused the power line to explode. There have been news reports of extreme heat and increased power usage during heat waves can cause this kind of thing, I suppose we will never know.
Many thanks to all the men and women that devote their lives to keeping others safe.

I was just going to say how hot he must be and then I read it in your text. And the expression on his face! That’s heroic duty, right there.

Love the photo. My husband was a volunteer firefighter and they would head out in their turn out suits like the picture never knowing what they would find at the fire sight. Sometimes the full gear wasn’t necessary but they always had to be ready.
